Open House at Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Facility Thursday, May 9, 9a.m. to 4pm

Public invited to tour four-time state Water Plant of the Year during Drinking Water Week

To celebrate national Drinking Water Week, which will be recognized May 5 – 11, across the country this year, the Macon Water Authority (MWA) will be hosting an open house at its Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Facility on Thursday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

During the open house, citizens will be able to learn about the drinking water production process while touring the Authority’s award-winning water treatment facility. Admission is free, and refreshments and giveaways will be provided.

The Amerson Plant has been selected as the state’s “Plant of the Year” by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals on four occasions since opening in 2000; in addition, the Amerson Plant produces the “Best Tasting Drinking Water in North America,” as judged by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) during a best of the best taste test competition in 2009.

The open house also will provide guests with details on how the Authority assures that its customers are drinking the cleanest and safest water possible, as well as insights on what the Authority continually does to protect the community’s water supply and natural resources.

For more than 30 years, the AWWA has celebrated Drinking Water Week as a means for utilities and the communities they serve to recognize the vital role water plays in the daily lives of citizens. This year’s theme for National Drinking Water Week is “what to know about H2O.”

Additional information about Drinking Water Week and the open house at the Amerson Water Plant is available by clicking here, or by contacting Authority officials at 478-464-5656.
